Vodka Dosing

Does it really do anything, or is it just a ruse so your spouse doesn't know you're doing shots while watching/ tending the tank  ;)

I have used vinegar it works. I mix it with the kalk and it makes it a stronger kalk solution. It allows me to dose 3 teaspons of kalk to my gallon of water. I was doing 50ml of vinegar per gallon of my alk dosing container that’s 7 gallon.

vinegar is really cheap and I already have it in the house.
dose vinegar to the tank and leave the vodka for me lol

Actually vodka gives you a bigger carbon bang for the buck.....so it's actually less expensive.

Anyway, I do a combination of vodka and vinegar. It is the DIY version of NOPOX determined by a professor and his grad students. I mix 500 mls vinegar (5%), 375 mls vodka (80 proof), and 125 mls RO/DI water. Dose as per instructions for NOPOX.

Buy the least expensive vodka you can find.....I typically buy Travelers Club Vodka for $12.99 for 1.75 L.

I also use vinegar occasionally and it’s good if not overdosed.
Start slowly and give the system some time to stabilize the bacteria population. If you see cyano bacteria cut down the dosing a bit. When I see the red in my rocks I just add around 2.5 ml and it’s gone buy next 2 days.
Good luck
