Water question?

Recently I have notice that I need to add more and more water every day to my tank. It use to be I would have to add water maybe like 1/2 gallon every 3 days now im up to about 3/4-1 gallon a day anyone know why this would be. My water temp is 78 when the nightlight is on and 80.5 with the metal halide and the pc's. My room temp is 75 degrees if that helps at all

If you're house heater has been running more often lately that could be causing the increase in evaporation. Home heating systems are dry heat so it will pull the moisture from the tank.

Could also be a leak somewhere in the system causing the water loss.

I checked for leaks everything is dry. Also I have had the heat on more and the furnace filter is right next to the tank so maybe thats the problem

The same thing is happening to me... I think its due to the dry air and the heaters being on drawing moisture from the tank... Im having to top off a lot more regularly than say i would in the summer time..

Most likely, the dry winter air and home heating are increasing the evaporation rate. The amount of replacement water you need to add is not at all unusual.

My 125 gal reef evaporates about 2 1/2 gals of water a day. Needless to say, I use an auto top off system.

It's just that time of the year. I'm evaporating about 22 gallons a day right now which is up from about a normal 15/16 gallons.
