Webcam

Hey guys im looking to purchase a webcam like a foscam so I can monitor my reef by phone when I'm away. I have an android(GS4) so it must have a compatible app. I'd like something pretty clear and tilt and zoom would be great. What does everyone recommend?

I use the Foscam FI8918w. It's afforable and does the job. I got it last September before I went on vacation. It has an app for Android also, worked well for my GS3 and HTC One.

Thanks judeo, that is very cheap. How is the picture? Im obviously not looking for a macro lense lol but it'd be nice to see things clearly. The spot I want to put it at is about 8 feet from the tank maybe 10

The picture is fine. it's not HD but you can see well. Also, keep in mind FPS will depend on your internet connection and plus the connection of your viewing device.

If you have a retired smartphone you can use that as a webcam. I am using an HTC incredible that has been sitting in the drawer. It already has build in WiFi so all you need is a mount and connect the power adapter to an outlet. I use the free IP webcam software for android. The picture quality can be set to desired level. I have mine set at 640x480. it's not HD but it's very good. You can set the resolution higher. It's limited by the network. So for practical purpose you don't want too high. A nice feature is it allows you to take a full resolution snapshot. So if you want to see the fine details you can do that.

This setup has been very reliable. I have it running for two months now without even touch it again. I was able to see my tank when I was in Tokyo. Also since the phone has a build in battery it works when the power is out for a few hours.

for an old/retired Apple product (iphone/ipad/ipod) you can get this app "Presence", then you will be bale to view it from any iOS devices.

Thats awesome guys. Unfortunately I dont have anything like that laying around. I've set aside money for this so I dont mind spending it. Thanks for that idea though

I currently have a Foscam FI9820W. It's pretty nice and is HD quality. Works awesome with a computer and internet connection. I've gotten it to work with a phone (android) but the FPS was very slow. It could be due to the HD setting and the phone using wifi/3G service just not fast enough to keep up? I never tried to use a lower quality to see if it would be faster on the phone, but it probably would.

I might be selling my foscam soon. I can't remember which model it is maybe 7000 series but it is wireless. It was bought with the intention of setting up at my brothers restaurant but the franchise wanted something else.
