I have a fire shrimp that is thriving in my tank. I really want to get a melnarus wrasse to defend my sps against critters. Any suggestionsZ? From what I read the Melanraus will eat the shrimp. Any suggestions would be nice

I picked one up about 2 weeks ago and doesn't bother my cleaner shrimp at all I think you will be ok

My melunarus doesn't bother my cleaners or fire shrimp and the shrimp were added after the wrasse. Wrasse is also full grown. Don't put too much stock in the wrasse eating critters off the SPS. Probably not gonna happen.

Jgraz, now big is your wrasse now? I have only seen a hand full of full grown melanarus wrasses. They exceed 6"s when full grown.

Mines about 4" I guess it could still get a bit bigger.

Edwin, for what it's worth my 6-line also an adult doesn't mess with any of my shrimp either.

Our melanarus ( 5"+) takes pot shots at the pepermint shrimp in our frag tank. Our lineatus, earls, and pylies will take a shot at a shrimp given the chance. We introduced a fire shrimp (4th shrimp in our Dt) last week, carefully, and he is Ok but our wrasses will all go for inverts given the opportunity.
That said, our candy basslet ate the two sexy shrimp we added last week, and our jawfish ate a pistol last spring, so you never know what a fish is going to do!

I've kept a 6-line and a green bird wrasse in a 75g reef with peppermint and cleaner shrimp for years with no issues. The occasional peck when the opportunity arised, but no serious injuries, shrimp are fast! Lol
