What is this?

Can anyone ID the attached? Is it a sponge? When I first saw it.. it was about 1/8" of an inch.. now it's about 1 1/2" big. Should I extract it from my tank? It's localized in one spot... does not move. Has some holes on it.. so it looks it's fitlering water, but the openings don't move.

I saw some pics of pineapple sponge and it looks quite different.

Yeah the hole in the side makes me think it isn't a pineapple plus it is too big. But it does have that basic shape. Got me by the short hairs...

It's a sponge, there are thousands of varieties. Leave it alone it's beneficial and will filter your water. If you don't like how it looks take it out.

Thanks!!! As long as it's harmless.. and beneficial.. I'll leave it in until it becomes an eye sore for me.. lol

And if you don't like how it looks, put it in your sump. That way you still get the filtration benefits.
