what solution is your TDS meter calibrated with?

Got a new TDS meter today, it came precalibrated to 342ppm but included a package of 1383ppm solution and states: "TDS in Aquarium, Hydroponics testing:
Recalibrate the HM TDS-EZ/3/4 meters with the 1382 ppm/KCl TDS solution for higher ppm TDS testing needs such as Aquariums, Hydroponics, Pools and Spas."

So should I go ahead and recalibrate it?

Also, I tested my tap 147ppm, the water from my RO/DI 0ppm (yippie) and then out of curiousity tested the water from my Pur filters, both were over 170ppm??? What am I missing, shouldn't they have been lower then tap?

Thanks

How long has it been since you replaced those filters? Most of them don't last that long and then you find different sediments that were trapped by the filter getting by and making your TDS higher then without the unit.

makes sense, of course it's also pretty upsetting if that's the case since I replace the one in the fridge every 3 months (6 is recommended) and the one in the Pur pitcher every few months as well (it has an indicator on it but I tend to ignore that and change more often) neither are more then 2 months old right now and we don't drink nearly enough water as we should so haven't gotten much use. In theory I'm better off drinking the tap then from my Pur filters in their current state eh?
