I understand but why not have people fill out permit slips for native species? Its done with certain reptiles and amphibians with a small price tag for the state.
I would always get a letter in the mail asking if I still have them and if not had to detail what happened and how I disposed of them.

people can’t be trusted. That’s why we are in the situation we are in now.
People don’t really understand how an ecosystem works. So when that fish gets too big for your tank and you release it in the ocean you are introducing a huge problem to that eco-system.

Agree. Guess it all depends an where people live. Florida anything released will probably thrive compared to NJ/NY.
