WHY do Zoos look like they're on deaths door before they split?

Why is it that all my poly's and zoos shrivel up to nothing as it they're about to die before they have a growth boom??

my green hulks went white and shrunk then exploded from 10 to nearly 50... now my Zoas are doing the same thing... its such odd behavior.. any know why?

They generally close up and shrink as they are splitting and expending energy creating new polyps. I have never seen mine on deaths door per say, but they will close up before they spit out new polyps.
