why does my macro algae always die

so I have a refugium area in my sump and every time I add macro it dies in a few days????

Lighting, low nutrients, type of algae you grow. Can you be more detailed on the environment you house the alge?

had a 9 watt led from reef radiance and cheato died. changed to 15 watt pc with calerpa and it died. have sand with a layer of rubble. nitrates are around 15 ppm

How long is it lit for? Also what the flow like through the fuge.

don't have any extra flow just from return pump. keep light on 24/7

Lights should be no more than 12 on. Even algae need to sleep. I reverse the lighting in my refugium to my DT.

+1 same here. Once my DT goes out, my fuge lights up. Never had any problems.

Cheato is pretty tough and hard to kill. My experience with the reds have found a dark cycle to help.

Are you dosing with any algaecides? Otherwise reverse light cycle and it should be nearly indestructable.
