Would it be worth while to get a 30g tall for a sump? The dimensions are 30x12.5x22.75. I was looking for a long to have more room in each section but I guess it's the same as far as water volume. It's a good deal I'm just curious if a long would be better

If you're going to place it in a cabinet, it might be a little hard to work on/in. The footprint of many skimmers may not fit either, along with their optimum operating depth.

Do you think it would be better to take a hit on total volume and get A 20 gallon tank
30"L x 13"W x 12"H. I'm running it on 55g

Put in the biggest tank that will fit below the stand and still allow you to get a skimmer in and out……a 40 long would be ideal….48 x 12 x 16.

I have a 20 long on my 90 and I feel thats a good size one thing if you have a in sump skimmer you will need to take it once and a while to clean you might not be able to do that with a 30gallon high i think your fine with a 20 long and still have enough room for everything

If it's the size of my 55, I only have 11"D x 42"W x 22"H total, inside the cabinet to work with, so, like the old carpenter's saying, "measure twice, cut once".

Yeah I don't have room for a 40g the inside of my tank won't fit that, I'm gonna pick up the tank Saturday. Dan would you mind sending me or just giving a brief description of your sump layout as far as dimensions and everything? It doesn't have to be to in depth if you don't have them handy

I have a 30 gallon under my 90 gallon setup, works perfect for me. dimensions are 36 x 13 x 17.
