WTB: Live Rock

Hey all, been a few years since I had a saltwater tank, but just threw my hat back into the ring with a Fruval Evo 13.5.

I'd like a few chunks of live rock with some worms or whatever...just some life, to really kickstart things in the tank. My eventual goal is a BTA and a few clown fish and just a lot of staring at the water. ;-)

But, in years past rock was easy to find (it's been about 15 years since I've been on this forum. I was at the pet store today and they had really ugly rock for $10/lb...I said, Oh hey...I like that one, he's like 'That's 11 lbs.'...suffice to say, not in the price range.

Anyway, is this still a thing?

I'm in the Princeton/Montgomery/South Brunswick area...specifically Kendall Park.

Thanks!

I have some bio balls. That are full of life.
I am in Edison 08820. You don’t need much media. I can give you some free.
everyone starts their tanks with dry rock now.

Hmmm. Ok. Thanks! Let me think about that.
One of my favorite things about my old tank was that sometimes you’d catch worms or weird things poking out of the rocks. Can I get to that stage without seeding the tank with some rock from someone who has that kind of life?

I think now it’s better to start with clean rocks.
you can add bacteria in liquid form and start the life you want to keep in the tank.
Without having any of the bad stuff.

if you get aptasia in that small tank it’s going to be very hard to get rid of it.
with clean rock you can control what gets in your tank.
I have a ton of live rock. But I have fish to eat the algea if you take rock from my tank and you have no tangs to clean the rocks the algea will take over. I have wrasses to eat the critters.
