Zoa Pox Treatment Pics.

Moved from emergency so it would not tie up that forum.

Using FURAN-2
Mixing with new salt water mix, salinity, PH, Temp Adjusted to match the main tanks.
Dose 2 Packets Furan-2 per 2 gal water (Box directions call for 1 pack per 10 gal)

To dip large numbers at once, racks were made with eggcrate to hold the frags. These were made removable with hanging brackets, capable of holdind 50+ frags. In between dips the frag racks were hung inside the tanks, this minimized handling of the Zoas.

I used a small cooler to minimize temp change, used a small power head to create a current and a digital thermometer to check temp.

Each dip was 20 minutes with a short dip in untreated water afterwards.

A large water change in the main tanks has been done.
Further water changes and a carbon change are also planned.

NOTE: After the 1st treatment, the polyps opened almost immediately after being place back into the main tanks indicating minimal stress.

Thats a really good way of doing it.....lets hope I never have to go through what you did. They say "necessity is the mother of invention" and you have proven that proverb to be very true.

The frags look good and I hope it all clears up fast and with minimal losses.

Only problem I can see is.....you have too many zoo's :p

But I would be glad to help you fix that problem :D

looking good, do you know if its just different zoa colors that have different sizes, All my zoas are tiny and not huge.

I believe that the type of Zoa dictates its size and the types only may have certain color variations, if that makes sense. One thing I was told is that the shipping points, allways get the better ones, like the kid in California that has a tank and does the repacking for shipping. The east coast never sees some of that stuff. Their may be larger Pure Red types but we rarely have access to them.

Greg,
The zoas will probably be a different color, or turn a green color from the Furan-2 but it will clear out once they heal up.

Thanks for the good words, when they are out of quarantine you can have your pick.

You don't have to do that....perhaps when things calm down you might have a few mins to teach a newbie how to frag a colony.

I have a huge colony of what I believe are Nuclear waste land pallys and Long lash green eye lady pallys.

They are now as big as a softball if not bigger and have at least 100 plus heads on it and need to be cut down but I am afraid to do it and end up destroying them.

So if you are possible interested in teaching then let me know....will gladly give you some of the proceeds of the fragging.
Would be willing to come to your location to have it done as well.

Sure, gonna need about 30-40 reef plugs to be safe and what type of rock are they on,
Hard softball, coral branch, Pic of the colony and a pic of the underside would help.
Any oddball polyps or morphs, take a close up pic cause more attention can be taken to separate them out. Survival rates, according to the substate, 90-100%.

I have the plugs and its on a lrg piece of Fuji rock I believe....will get a pic of the colony when I get home

No oddball morphs but there may be a watermelon shroom or 2 attached to the rock as well.

They were originally 2 pieces of rock that fused themselves together if I recall correctly But the 2 colonies have not become intermixed....you'll see when I post the pic :D

here is a colony pic or two....they are so overgrown that some of them cant fully open.

They need to be trimmed back desperately into something manageable

Yes the deff need to be pruned, make sure you dont have them close to a rock that you dont want them on. I learned the hard way and now i have most of mine banished to the sump, or got rid of the whole rock they were on, once they start spreading its hard to get rid of them.
