Zoo Care Question

I have several Zoo frags in my tank. The oldest frag is doing really well.

The three newest frags are having mixed results. I have only had them a week.

One is open most of the day, One is opening and closing throughout the day (mostly closed)

The last one had been mostly closed for the week.

Right now they are on the sand.

I have 255 watts of light for a 60 G. 150 Watts is a MH

Would it be possible to get a picture?

Have you tried a freshwater or iodine dip? Sometimes it'll take a week or two for them to adjust to the new system.

I will take some pics. I have not tried a dip yet. I purchased them out of someone's tank, so I thought a dip may not be required.

If you look at them during the night are they open completely?

I noticed that when I started adding zoa's to my tank they were receiving too much light and would not open completely. Actually, even after moving them some of the species still do not open fully accept at night.

I am posting a pic of the zoo that is still closed.

I have just done a 5 minute FW dip.

Any input is appreciated.

If I should do a Lugol's dip, is there an iodine product that is recommended?

They are covered with cyno, that will keep them closed up. They need treatment fast!
Do Furan 2 dips and even lightly try to rub off some of the brown film with a Q-Tip.
Set then low in the tank in some current. Also use a turky blaster to hit them with a stream of water to blow some off. You should get a positive responce in a day or two.

Whitebird, I am curious, the article you linked is for zoa pox. Is that what you think they have? Is Furan 2 good for other ailments unrelated to zoa pox?

Yes it works for other allaments too, just use the directions for treatment. I used it for what u have with success.
Iodine, freshwater dips are mostly for parasites.
Only other treatment is brutal, last resort! Hydrogen Peroxide, place the frag in a cup of tank water, add, by cap full the HP just till you see a few bubbles coming off the frag, 2-3 cap fulls should do it. Good Luck.

Thus far- this is what I have done.

1 - Started with FW dip a few days back - prior to Whitebird's post
2 - Took qtip and started to remove cyano (Two Days in a row)
3 - Furan 2 dips (on my third dip tonight)

So far I have seen very slight opening, but I was not expecting them to open right away, so no concerns.

I will let you know how it goes from here, in case you are wondering Scottyrock

Addition, The Furan-2 seems to be harmless to the Zoas, they seem to not be bothered at all by it, mutable dips in a 24hr period had no bad effects. Hitting then with a water spray, (Turkey Blaster) to blow off the cyno that was treated is a key, some times they will open immediate afterwards. The Hydrogen Peroxide Treatment!

Adding to this, "as soon as you can see a few micro bubbles coming off your frag you have added enough HP, Let sit 5 min, blast with water, done" I just did this to 4 small frags that I was going to toss out and 2 are open and happy!!!!

Thanks again. I did my third Furan-2 dip last night. I have to admit, I was not using the turkey baster afterwards. Clearly this could have had an impact.

Last night I did use a Q-tip on them and a good bit of the cyano was coming off.

I am planning to let them "rest" a couple of days, and may do some more furan-2 or move to the HP method.

Wait 5-7 days and if they are not getting worst or you see signs of improvement, leave them alone, no touch so they calm down. Pic?

I keep meaning to post a pic, but for now I will just update. The Zoos are doing much better. Thanks Whitebird1. Almost all of them have started to open at this point.
