QT procedure

Hi all, hoping for some advice.
I just picked up 2 new mouths to feed and they're in the QT at the moment. Fish were picked up at Tropaquarium and both seem to be visually healthy. They've been in for 3 days now.

I dropped a line in RC and the advice I received back involved the tank transfer method, then Prazipro dosing.
I'd prefer to avoid the TTM if possible, so I'm asking whether its feasible to skip it.

I also read this, which doesn't involve TTM...
Dose Prazipro on day 2,
50% WC day 7,
Cupramine post WC,
observe 2 weeks dosing with Maracyn 2 if any bacterial infection observed.
(continue small water changes throughout this program)

Anyone here have any opinions or advice to share?

Thanks,

Mark

What fish did you get? How big are they and how big is QT?

I have spend many many months QTing many fish, sometimes 12 - 13 specimens at a time. Check my build thread and you can read all about it.

In short, I find hypo the best method to use. I will never use copper again. Hypo the tank for 6 weeks and use prazipro treatment in last 2 weeks.

Good Luck.

I personally have never used medication in QT unless the fish show signs of illness or disease. I usually put the fish in QT and observe for 4-6 weeks...again only use medication if the fish show any signs.

I always figured, why give unnecessary meds? I wouldn't do that to a human Lol

Residents are a small fairy wrasse (1.5") and a small chalk bass (1").
Tank is 20L with hob filter (no carbon), UV (as I had it around and I'm not medicating atm), heater, airline, powerhead, some filter material from main tank, and some PVC so they can build things in their free time.

Thanks guys, I felt the TTM would be stressful to the fish, a pain in the *** to me, and expensive in cost. Unfortunately I didn't know better and acclimated the fish to the 1.025 of the QT. In the future I'll go hypo to start.
So, atm my plan is to keep the fish under observation for 4 weeks and dose Prazi in the last 2, medicating otherwise only if the fish appear ill.

Cool. Just so you know, wrasses hate copper. Best to hypo always. Also angels and tangs are the ones i would qt for ich and flukes. Wrasses and anthias I would keep in hypo and qt to make sure they eat well. I would always use prazipro 2 weeks prior to making the transfer to DT. So 3 prazipro treatments in last 2 weeks.

Treat with prazipro as directed and change 25% water on 4/5th day. Dose again on 6th day and do 25% water change the 10th day. Dose the 3rd dose of prazipro on 10th day and do 50% water change the 14th day.

This is my regime, follow it or not is upto you :)

qt to make sure they eat well

They've been in there 3 days and are already coming to the glass anticipating food. They've got as healthy an appetite as my 4 year old.
Thanks for the advice. I'm with 9 on the non-medication front if at all possible, but I'm not skilled enough yet to pick up on any subtle indications of illness. As such, aside from hypo in the future, I'll treat Prazi before DT.
Thanks again guys.
