    Petco score

The Petco in Brick is a different animal. Top notch guy, Andrew, runs the fish department and has tanks himself. Loads of ORA fish and corals, most of us Ocean and Monmouth County folks Andrew knows by name. Worth a trip on Tuesdays when they get stock in. Almost walked out with a juvenile Coral...

Thought & opinions please, re: filtering

Sponge, yeah, the purigen is an upscale phosphate remover. The Chempure is just a mix of carbon, gfo, and a resin with an extended in tank life of 3-4 months. Now, back to opinions on 2 baskets or basket and skimmer :)

Thought & opinions please, re: filtering

So I have a 30g IM nuvo, dual overflows. Behind each overflow is a media basket with floss. SPS dominant, lots of fish (9 tangs or something like that). Both overflows catch a decent amount of detritus and floss is changed every 3-4 days when mildly browned. I have a Tunze 9004 which will fit in...

    Black box LED comparison

Ignore my previous comments regarding this, as I'm only commenting on capitalism and the need for businesses to make profit. When I was in practice for myself and folks would ask about other medical professionals, my go to line was, 'Wow, the medical community didn't think they'd ever re-instate...

    Black box LED comparison

All I can say is they sell lights at retail that they buy at wholesale, in most cases thats close to 100% markup. I can imagine lighting sales is as big a profit driver for aquarium shops as beer and liquor are for restaurants. 'OK. these black boxes lights are mounted 48" above the tank, we've...

120g Into the Sea -- My First Saltwater Build

Well, I might as throw my 2c in as well. I recommend dry fitting the entire system. Cut it all, dry fit it all together, make sure you're happy and you can easily reach and work everything. Go to bed and sleep on it. Got to work and think on it. Draw some doodles on a legal pad. Come home and...

    Wooohooo, new toy

An update. I'm used to alarms telling me something is amiss. This system is in a 30g and has no alarms, so, when I left in the morning hearing a whirring noise, I assumed the pump was filling the tank. 9 hours later, when I came home, the whirring was still going on. Seems the ATO bucket was...

    Rotifers & phytoplankton

Phyto... I grew the stuff like mad for a while. The two easiest strains are nanochloropsis and tetraselmis, of which, i found nanochloropsis to be a bit more prolific. The tetra cultures were a hit or miss day by day, but I think I could have peed in the nano bucket and scraped dinner plates...

120g Into the Sea -- My First Saltwater Build

Tank looks fantastic, love that stand. Cozy room, fishtank, computer, big screen, secret entrance, no kids visible...its sorta like paradise. Also, watched the ATO vid. I just picked up an Avast pressurse sensitive ATO system with a diaphragm pump that can push water across a football field and...

Coming back! WTB Light and MP40

Heya Mike, Welcome back. I've got loads of cycled rock (probably 100#) in the shed. Make an offer, pencil me down for a future frag, or take it. Not sure where you are, I'm in Brick

    Jebao SLW-20s?

Thanks guys! In a 36" 30g thats 12" tall and 12" wide, you think they'd be too much if dialed in low? Other options are the SLW10s which operate at about half the power, or 2x Hygger Mini Wave makers.

    Jebao SLW-20s?

Well, my Tunze finally dies in my 30g after 4+ years of use (and a week after I purchased a night controller cable for it for $40, figures). In looking for a low profile, quiet, effective, non-ridiculous priced, nano water mover I found a few options. I'm leaning towards 2 of the Jebao SLW-20s...

    Pods and socks

Yep. Try to rig it so the pods are multiplying in the section just after the socks/floss. Fill it with lots of rubble, marine pure, or build a fuge. Ideally this section will also be after the skimmer if possible, as some will be pulled in, but if that can't be managed you should still be OK...
