Good Morning Dave. Amazon has the cartridges for a little more than two bucks each if you buy like 30 of them. I am sure the one micron cartridge would work as well as using the powder for most cases. I know on these forums many people worry about parasites and the one micron filter should...
MadReefer. That cap is only for the prototype but I will replace it with plastic or rubber as as soon as I go to Home Depot. It is just a "cup" that holds the canister to the base and there are 4 stainless steel sheet metal screws in it to hold it in.
A member on another forum (I am not sure...
The 5 micron cartridge seems to work very well, "So Far in a test". I put diatom powder in a container with water and had the filter suck it up.
It coated the cartridge and completely cleared up the water of powder.
The only "issue" of starting it like this is that it would be difficult to...
Redfishbluefish, I usually don't measure the powder and dump in about a cup or a little more. But that was in a normal Vortex Diatom filter. This one is anyone's guess but some experimentation and a lot of wasted powder should tell me the amount.
That pool filter certainly doesn't look like it...
If the 5 micron cartridge does not coat with diatom powder like I hope it will I designed another modification but it will be a little tricky to build into this device so some people may have difficulty with it. I will see soon as the 5 micron filter is supposed to arrive today.
Right now with...
There is no need for this with or without ozone. Ozone has nothing to do with this. Ozone purifies water, may kill some parasites and bacteria and this device removes particles. It will also remove parasites but I have no need to remove parasites. I realize many people do not like parasites...
A "Diatom" filter is a powerful canister filter that is designed to use intermittently, not for continuous use. You hook it up to your tank with hoses and put about 2 cups of diatom powder in it. The powder is normally used in swimming pools and will remove anything up to about a micron or a...
I acquired a half size model so while I am tweeking the larger one, I will design a smaller one for a smaller tank. These prototypes are just for design ideas. I am not sure yet if I can get the correct cartridge for the smaller one.
I also found a material for the base that is cheap...
In my test it looks like some of the diatom powder is getting through the 30 micron filter so I ordered some 5 micron filter cartridges for a test.
I knew there would be some tweeking to do.
No, the water filter is designed so the water enters on the outside of the membrane and goes through to the inside just as it works under a sink.
I installed the thing and it is working better than my wildest dreams......... Well,, maybe not my wildest dreams because they involve a bowling...
I have 4 or 5 old Vortex Diatom filters in various stages of disintegration and I use one all the time to stir up the gravel in my 125 gallon tank. I also use it to blow out detritus in the pores my real rock. The tank uses dolomite gravel and the gravel has been in there for the 52 year life of...
I normally use a rigid acrylic tube on the outflow. On one end of the tube I heat it and squash it a little to make a power washer. I have been using it like that since the 60s and it is very powerful so I can stir up my reverse undergravel filter and clear detritus out of the pores in the...
It's a normal, under sink canister. The majano Wand is made in the States. In Boca Raton Florida. It was one of my stipulations when I patented the thing
I received the parts to build my newly designed diatom filter. I won't have time today to do much so maybe tomorrow. It all looks good and "should" work very well and look nice. (I don't like to build ugly stuff)
The filter cartridge is a 30 micron pleated membrane. I picked that one because...
I ordered the parts to build a new diatom filter. It will be less than $100.00. If it works well, I will post a DIY but if it flops, I will not tell anyone and just go and eat worms. :confused2:
