Folks, if you've recently upgraded or renewed your annual club membership but it's still not active, please reach out to the BOD or a moderator. The PayPal system has a slight bug which it doesn't allow it to activate the account on it's own.
Great deal on lights, great RO system that suits your needs, and even if it doesn't have the DI its only a few bucks as an add on.
There ya go. I should quit my job and move into setting up power couples.
You've answered one, with the eating cubes and strips, then another with the ability to acclimate to other inverts if fed well enough.
I was hoping to have a few soft corals, perhaps LPS, on the rocks. HAve you had any corals and if so, have they survived? Does it tend to pick at coral or is it...
I use this 4 Stage Value RO/DI System - Bulk Reef Supply with an inline meter.
I switched up when I began running multiple 40g+ tanks and was doing 20+ gallons of water changes a week.
The buddy system worked great for me with 60g worth of tanks.
I'd probably still use it if I hadn't snagged the...
Joe,
Go look in Deals and steals.
Amado is selling some Kessils that I'm trying not to buy myself.
Never owned Kessils but heard great reviews and this seems like a great deal for $250.
2 x Kessil A80/ Kessil H80 and Kessil Spectral controller X $300
Marine Depot seems to be offering a finance...
Hi Joe and welcome aboard.
Agreed with MadReefer. The RODI buddy works well. It'll crank out 10g a day if needed, and in a 30g tank with a 10% water change per week (just round it up to 5g) you'll be fine.
LED lighting has tons of options, 2-3w per gallon is the normal (with enough spread to...
Remember seeing this and finding it amusing a few years back, just typed mantis shrimp in Google and surprised it came up as one of the first links...
Why the mantis shrimp is my new favorite animal - The Oatmeal
Well, the new 40 isn't working out atm for a xenia build, and all the fish and inverts are happy.
And, I've always wanted a mantis, so I figure what the ^&%^.
Got one on order. Plan on rearranging the tank Wednesday for it.
Yet to decide what to do with livestock as it'll go on a killing spree...
HA! You're working on a much larger scale than I am. Sounds like you've got it all under control. No need to drain, all is well, I just have nano systems in my head.
Sponge,
Mixing salt in tank is possible but it can leave some salt accumulation in filter, on glass, or in sand.
To start would advise buying a 5g bucket from a blue or orange chain store.
Then buy a float like this (shop around a bit, but I have the Eshopps and love it).
The float automatically...
Mark at et. al.,
Did this today and can't be bothered to take pics.
So, I'll describe.
Got get a stick, like a marshmallow roasting stick or a kebeb stick, the wood kind, oft pointy at one end.
Hack the pointy end of the stick, lightly, with a knife, in all different directions.
Try to make the...
Heya J!
Not sure what I'm looking at with the pic, but the brown/orange stuff in the low left of the photo certainly looks like diatomes.
Depending on the age of the tank they;re a normal and expected occurrence.
If the tube is longish and about the diameter of a pencil lead, there are multiple short arms (1/4 to 3/4 inch) that are thin and fanlike, its probably a tube worm. They seem to grow spontaneously and I've got them in my fuge, filter, overflow, etc... . They're harmless filter feeders. I'd think...
Everything is open this morning with about 50-60% reduction hair algae and no diatomes on the floor.
If possible, the zoas seem to have perked up a bit. All inverts (including more delicates like anemone crabs) are out and scavenging.
Seems there's no concerns.
Dave, if you look on the right...
Last night i decided to spot treat some hair algae with 3% hydrogen peroxide (thanks Sponge).
I poured approx 7oz into a bowl (its what was poured out, and I was too lazy to try to get it back in the container).
Intent was to mix some tank water with it and use a baster to hit the algae, dumping...
