I just spent an hour cutting sponges off my corals and I have the stuff growing all over the place. I do this every few months and it is time consuming but kind of relaxing. I need to do it because if I don't, instead of a reef, I would have a sponge farm.
So if you are bored or like delicate...
Yeah, thats what I was thinking. :cautious:
Well, I am finished. Water is changed and luckily Petco didn't have those fish. Just some anemic looking clownfish. :)
I am sitting in my workshop/Man cave waiting for my collected water to heat up and I notice the salinity is way to low. I threw in some salt but I don't have enough. Of course I also tested the water in my reef and that is also way to low.
I can probably keep kissing gouramies and...
Beautiful day here in Long Island today so I collected 40 gallons of water behind my house.
The alk was 7 and the temp was 40. I didn't test calcium but the salinity is 1.016.
It is crystal clear so I don't have to do anything to it except warm it up and maybe add some salt.
The parts alone are almost $2,000.00 so probably not right now. :p It isn't worth what I would have to charge for it. The central part of the thing is an antique and apparently pretty rare, but someone, thankfully gave it to me.
I have about 12 different lamps left and they are all...
I just finished a new lamp. This is made out of a solid brass locomotive oiler from the 1850s. It incorporates a firebulb and two ultraviolet, glowing glass tubes.
If it ever stops raining here I would like to change some water. I don't remember changing any since last summer and I don't want to read back through my posts to figure out when it was. I am not a big water change person and it probably almost never has to be changed but I just feel it should...
Thanks, I didn't make it but it is nice.
I think I just made someones day. I went to Home Depot just now and parked my car. As I started walking to the store, a van pulled out of a parking space in front of me and was turning to leave the parking lot.
I saw something on his back bumper and...
This Saturday is a year since my best friend of 50 years died of Covid.
His wife just got permission to have a Veteran and Police service at Calverton National Cemetery near my house where he is buried which I found out is the largest Veteran Cemetery in the US. (I always thought it was...
ARKNOAH LED
I just ordered this one. It is the first one I saw that was in stock and I could get in a couple of days. I don't care what kind it is as they are more or less junk.
I should go back to building my own, but I don't have the time. I may have to go back to work so I...
I never heard of it, but I never heard of almost any of the weird things people's tanks seem to get.
One of my Chinese lights croaked. This is the third one I replaced since I am living here for the last three years. I guess you can only get about two years out of these things.
Now I buy the...
I really don't know what so many people are spending so much money on. It boggles my mind as so many people keep saying this is such an expensive hobby. It could be, just like playing golf, especially if you want to play in Hawaii every week and you live in Ohio.
I can see you need to buy all...
I have no idea and can't get through any of them.
I just came back from Calverton National Cemetery to visit my Buddy Tommy who died of Covid and is buried there.
History of Vietnam Veterans Day
Officially designated in 2017 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day by President Donald Trump, the holiday is marked by ceremonies and celebration across the U.S.
Today is "Viet Nam War Veterans" Day.
(I made a mistake is was not 50 years ago. I was there 50...
Good Morning. If anyone is interested today is Palm Sunday and tomorrow is Viet Nam Veterans Day which is the 48th anniversary of the end of that war. :)
I just got back from my favorite LFS. It is a very old, filthy place but he usually has some interesting stuff and he practically gives it away.
Unfortunately I came back empty because he had more dead and dying fish than healthy, or at least breathing fish and nothing interesting. There was...
