I believe they just filter feed from the water column. You may have to target feed it phytoplankton or zooplankton. I don't think they eat all the stuff in the sand bed, that's a different type.

Powerful the torch and placed in front of large nepthea. Seemed okay but not fully extended. During night it fell over so I just picked it up. The head were Very retracted. I assumed to much flow. Moved it farther back on side of tank. A few green heads popped. What's the best spot for it?

I was debating cause the seahorse filter gets dirty quickly. I plan to upgrade the tank but wasn't sure if I should go overflow or not. You just solved that problem for me.
