Under T5 alone (Actinic) all my corals are doing great. No issues at all and lots of growth.
They are about 6 months old now. I was thinking of replacing one or two and putting something other than actinic bulbs.

Trio, my leathers were never opening up.
I also had a purple favia that's neon green and purple and it was more like brown and light green. Also my zoas weren't completely opening.
With just the T5 everything is opening up and I see lots of growth, I just don't have any white lights which...

Max also pointed out that my overflow wasn't skimming since the teeth were fully under the water level. I pulled that higher so it's taking water from the top and I move a power head to make more turbulence. I'll report back tomorrow !

So just an update. I am noticing that there is a film on the top of the water. It's moving around well but my guess is that it's not making its way to the skimmer in the sump?
Anyone know what the best way is to get rid of surface scum ?
Again I see it moving around the tank but it's always...
Wow good thing you found them.
My room smells fine. Even the tank itself smells fine. I only notice is if I put an object in the tank and take it out, that object smells...my hand, a stick I use to move things around...
As for fishes...I have a goby and that's it. I have a pistol shrimp and 3...
Everything is looking great skimmer is running fine. I run it a little on the wet side. All my corals are opening up really nice and looking better than ever.

Hello everyone
I have recently noticed that the ocean like smell from my tank now smells like a more intense. It's not a very good smell...it smells as good as my ability to describe smells via text.
It's hard to wash it off my hands. The best way I can describe it is by saying that it...
Thanks !
Wow seems like it's snowing already. Tank is only a few months old and now there are pods all over the place...maybe I should stop playing Marvin Gaye on loop when I leave my place.
I'm finding more and more white dots on my tank walls
I think it's left by the snails overnight as they clean the algae but I have no idea
I also think I found a baby snail....are these dots eggs? Poop? Mineral deposits?
Should I clean them or leave them?
Thanks all!
Great post for many reasons! Very simple project. I'm going to get one of these guys for sure. I will be away for a week next month so I'm waiting to go and come back before I get started.
Extremely excited !
I'm going to start the hatching and growing process today.
Anyone know exactly what makes it so hard to feed the mandarin ? The videos I see of them feeding make it look really easy.
Also it seems from what I see that hatching thousands of brine shrimp just take 24 hours and then 2-3 weeks...
I have been looking into how hard it was to breed brine shrimp. My tank is new but most of my rocks and sand is from a very mature tank. I see pods everywhere both in my sump and tank. Regardless I really would like to learn to breed brine shrimp so I can keep them nice and fed so they don't go...
You guys are supposed to make my life easier ! Most of these I have never heard of.
Mandarins are amazingly beautiful! I have lots of choices I guess.
You guys are all the best!

That site is great!
I just really want bright and active fish to see interacting with my tank. Fish shopping makes me really wish I had a huge tank haha.
Looking to add some fish to my 40 gallon reef tank.
I want colorful active fish to bring some life to my tank.
Currently I have a goby and pistol along with 3 peppermint shrimp. Also 2 small emerald crabs.
I will definitely add 2 clownfish but what else can I add that are active and colorful?
