Eh my apex does make things easier but if your just looking so do basic controlling like I do then I'd maybe consider an older model. I really only use my apex to control my 2 heaters , but it is nice being able to control everything in the same interface. It makes maintenance easy too, so...

Not an issue in my tank trust me lol, my one tank is about 1.5 years old I believe and I finally figured out how to manage nutrients while feeding multiple times today to keep them nice and fat. Algae Scrubber + Refugium + GFO +Descent skimmer and now my tank is finally starting to shape up...

I have a 150 south american tank, combination of real / fake plants. All the real plants I put in either get eaten or destroyed by the cichlids but there still nice to look at in the mean time lol, good luck with your tank! Are you looking to make it a planted tank?
