I think a Kati-Ani unit would be a better option instead of an RO/DI unit. It produces instant water with no waste.

If the tank MFG suggests the washer on the wet side, it's still a simple fix.
You would cut the pvc, unscrew the nut, install the washer on the inside.
You would need 2 couplings to put everything back together again.
