Try stacking it with lots of caves in it. Stand some on edge then build on top of that.

It's most likely a bristle worm. They are a good scavenger while small. They can grow up to a couple feet long.

They took the poisonings out of pressure treated lumber.

Keep them in the new spot for a few months and see if they get the P back. Everyone that knows their zoos will know that their PD's and will still want to buy them, knowing that they just have to find the right spot in their tank. And, you can't find a price as low as your's.

Mine seem to like a higer K bulb. When I was running 10K, they lost their P. I switched to 12K and their color came back. I tried 20K and their color was Bright P. I went back to 12k and their normal PD's again.

What kind of lighting are they under and how close to the light?

I would bet thats it's only a loose connection somewhere. Couldn't you get one of the kids to help you take it apart? ;D
