2 - had one that was too small so have it as backup.


Heater failure is my biggest fear

Got 1 in each of my tanks. Just bought 2 temperature controllers and plan on doubling up - 1 main on controller and one emergency backup for each tank.

I always run 2 heaters controled by my Apex you never know when ones going to go

I have 2 heaters in my main tank. Both undersized. If one locks on, it is not likely to overheat the tank. I have one for my water change that I drop into 5 gallon containers to preheat it. I do this since I store them in the garage where it gets cold. I have one flat heater for a emergency hospital/quarantine/ live rock tank. I also put one in the pico tank.

I've had a heater fail on me, 2x with this set up. Without putting it into the display, I don't have room to run a second. So I keep 2x extra on hand for when I need them
