You can have it. Do you have any idea how tough a lobster of that size is? Give me a 2-4 pounder any day.

I have eaten, with help, a 12-pound lobster (and it was a cull, if you can believe that!)and found that this is not true. My Dad was a lobstermaniac and would often buy a huge lobster if he saw one. His mantra was always, "There's a lot more meat on a ten pound lobster than on ten one pound lobsters, that's simple logic!"

The trick is to cook it just right, overcooked is tough, and undercooked lobster is very gross. Any lobster served from a steam table at a buffet can be used as a tennis ball.

That lobster was just two days away from retirement.

My diving buddy back in the late 60’s, early 70’s, caught the record lobster off New Jersey on the shipwreck Mohawk, in about 110 feet of water. I can’t remember the weight…I want to say something like 25 pounds, but I really can’t remember. That sucker was big and long. The biggest problem we had was finding something to cook it in. Bob wanted to save all the pieces and glue it back together. Ended up buying the largest garbage can we could find (back then they were made of galvanized steel) and making a log fire in his back yard and putting the garbage can on top of the fire. With this thing so big and having maybe 40 – 50 gallons of water to heat up, ended up overcooking the bugger. It was tough! Bob did glue up all the pieces and mounted it on a board. Without the antenna, it was close to three feet long.

We actually found out afterwards that the area of the Mohawk was a dumping ground for the honey barges. That’s probably why this thing got so big and the Mohawk was always good for good catch of lobsters.
 
From a conservation perspective - did anyone catch the fact that it is LEGAL in canada to harvest lobsters that size - whereas in Maine it's not?

I would also imagine that if the lobster were to go out into international waters outside the state - it would also become fair game.

Although I do pity the scuba diver that tries to grab that lobster out from under live rock with zero visibility. ouch.

It's also legal in Canada to harvest 1 lb and smaller lobsters. When you order a genyooine Maine lobster dinner in Hawaii, it's always one of those puny Canada punks. I guess Canada doesn't worry about their fishery.
