150 watt DE PAR ratings?

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone here knew where to obtain any reading material on 150 DE PAR ratings.I can find everything from T-5 to Metal Halides of 250 any above, but cant find anything on 150 watt bulbs.After reading coral magazine this month,they say there are 150 watt bulbs with as much if not more than 250 bulbs out on the market.If anyone can shed some light on this topic,it would be much obliged.Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome! Have you checked out Sanjay's site? I've never checked it for 150W bulbs and ballasts but he may rate them. If I get a chance, I'll see if I can dig up the link (if someone else doesn't beat me to it).
 
I use to have 150de and all i know is outta all the bulbs i tried the phoenix 14k was hands down the best for color and great growth as well.
 
So im assuming that the PPFD is the amount of PAR coming from the bulbs? I do not know how to read the acronyms on those pages.
 
No PPFD is different than PAR. This is from Sanjay's lighting site on Manhattan Reefs:

What is PPFD?
PPFD stands for Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density, and is the technically correct term when PAR (Photosynthetically Available Radiation) is measured as the number of photons of light falling on a given area in a given amount of time.. The units are micromoles per meter square per second. 1 micro mole is = 6.023X1017. So for example, when you see a value for PPFD=200 it means that there are 200X6.023X1017 photons falling on a 1 meter square area in one second.


What is difference between PAR and PPFD?
PAR is the Photsynthetically Available Radiation which is all radiation between 400-700 nm wavelength range. It can be measured in several units. Just like distance can be measured in feet, meters, etc. PAR can be measured in different units used to measure radiation. When PAR is measured by the number of photons falling on a given area in a given amount of time, this is called PPFD and the units used are micromoles per meter square per second.


If you run all the bulb and ballast combinations on his teting site you can find these results.


The 150W bulb & ballast combination with highest PPFD is the Icecap 150W 6500K DE 1 & Icecap 150W Electronic ballast with 76 PPFD.

The highest 175W is the Iwasaki 175W 15000K SE 1 & Icecap 175W Electronic ballast @ 86 PPFD.

The highest 250W is the XDE 250W 10000K DE 1 & Icecap 250W Electronic ballast @ 121 PPFD.

Lighting is somewhat subjective. There really is no place to go to see a side by side comparison. MH may raise the temp of the tank a bit, but a fan takes care of that. T4 in a 4 bulb configuration may not allow for as wide a choice of corals. A six bulb configuration would probably be better.

What do you want to keep in the tank and at what depths?

PC, T5, MH or LED will work, the choice is yours.
 
So i currently have 4 T-5's over the tank now and was thinking about going all T-5's which is why i would get 4 more T-5s.That being said,new bulb comparisons are saying that 150's have just as much PAR value with the right bulb(XM 10K'S)I currently have sps,lps,acros,and 2 clams a crocera and squami on the sand bed and they are enjoying the sunshine over them right now.I know that squami's arent really light neady but coracera are a little more demanding and he is fine one the sand bed.Which is why i, trying to search for the PAR out put of 150 BULBS from any company.Let me know what you think about just sticking with what i got or moving on up to the T-5's.
 
Id get the 2 150 xm 10 k for awesome growth and keep the 4 t-5's for your blues, and to get the color the way you want. Best of both worlds!
