2.5 gal reef tank

hey guys. i might be obtaining a 2.5 gal mini reef tank.

i'm deciding what i want to put in there. a mini clown fish, firefish...maybe a yellow watchman.

i'm curious, would a yellow watchman + a clown fish be too much for a 2.5 gal? alos, how about if i wanted to put a pistol shrimp with a watchman (withouth the clown). just curious if this is doable...i'm starting my research as you can tell ;]

clown fish is 7.5min.  2 fish in a 2.5  :eek:

a small goby would be best bet.  i'll find a link on the recommended or general rule of thumb.

A 2.5 is very small,forget the clown. One of the nicest small gobies is the dracula goby but 2.5 gals might be to small for that. Heres a pic,but they are expensive . You should only keep one very small fish in there so might as well make it a good one .The banded goby is also very nice,I have one for two years in my tank and it peeks its head out every once in a while .

If you dont like gobies a tang or grouper might work . ;D

fyi on amount of water,
i have a 2.5 gallon tank that i use for my water changes. with just the pump, heater and salt water, i can just fit 2 gallons. this is no sand or rock. the displacement of the rock will give you even less water.

why should i forget the clown? aren't they as hardyh as the dracula clown or you're just suggesting that because only one fish is recommended?

i have the tank with some water and rock...it definitely seems like this will be a challenge. i take it i should do weekly water changes...anyone recommend the amount? just a few cup fulls?

Come to think of it skip my suggestion, I wouldn't put a dracula in a 2.5 If you must put a fish in there Check this one out ,info in link . Mine is only 3/4 inch and is 2 years old .

Try to keep track of salinity with evaporation.temp with lights on/off for a few days and see how stable you can keep it before putting a fish in.

because your being absolutely cruel to a fish that naturally lives in an ocean sticking it into a extremely small tank where parameters are not as easily to keep stable and they GROW. you can do whatever floats your boat. it's just like people who put tangs in a nano. irresponsible. but noone is holding you down if you take that road.

I was thinking of obtaining a pico myself with the intent on showcasing some smaller soft corals, such as mush and zoas. I was even thinking of adding a small shrimp but no fish. Also, keep in mind that most fish just wont simply fit in there but they also excrete waste. If you plan on having corals in that tank than it can throw off your parameters fast because the water volume is so low and the corals will not like it. You may be surprised on the the behaviors some small invertebrates have when you don't loose them in large tanks.

Invert wise a lot of people put in a sexy shrimp as they are very cool looking but often end up as a meal in a normal tank.

haha. i was gonna resist this post until tomorrow but i know an uproar will occur.

i couldn't resist that post.

the tank will have a goby, sexy shrimp and some corals. i would really like a mini clown but people are advising against. my guess is because it will grow alot bigger...if that were the case i could put in my 150
