The Royal Gramma (Gramma loreto) is a small bicolor basslet from the Caribbean and Pacific. The front is a bright purple and a bright yellow back. It gets a maximum of about 3 inches, so it is a good fish for smaller saltwater aquariums. It likes caves in the rock work. At night, it may be found curled up in a ball in the rockwork. It often orients its body parallel to the rockwork as well. Many stores tell you to keep these by themselves, but in larger tanks they seem to work well together. Camden Adventure Aquarium has a tank with several Gramma. Like other basslets, it is a carnivore. When threatened, it can open its mouth wide.
