220 Gallon Stainless Steel Stand (Lots of pics)

Here's what I got so far on the stand for my 220 gallon tank that I can hopefully setup soon.

I used 12 gage 304 Stainless Steel Tubbing for this stand so it wouldn't rust and could be more than strong enough to hold a tank full of sand if needed.

Working on getting the legs on.

That looks really good! Im making my stand for my 12g ap with wood but working with metal like that is something i have no clue about.

Thank you, I should be getting the doors on next week hopefully the stainless for the trim next week or the following week. Then I gotta figure out the plumbing which I'm not sure I'm gonna be that good with not sure how long that will take me.

So I have what's probably a stupid question, but do you not need "legs" under the supports mid-way on the tank? I'd probably want them there (even if they weren't needed) just for peace of mind!

looks good! are you making a permanent skin on the metal or will it be removeable?

Brian,

this looks real good!! if i need to redo or build my next stand, i now know whom to call...
thx for sharing...

note:
just have the same question as Phyl did... why not add the leg in the middle (just in case)?

also you may want to add 1 short bar on the bottom, that way, you can put a wood-board on it as a base for you put stuffs...

Stuff like this makes me sick. :)

I don't have the skills or tools to make something like that, and the result is far better than anything you can buy at your LFS.

My only question is could there be a problem with legs on the stand, since that would place the entire weight of the reef on 4 small areas?

Origninally it was on 13 gage steel angle and flat bar it was shorter but this 12 gage tubbing will be no problem with weight. I had an engineer draw it up so everything will hold fine this stand could probably hold 2 tons no problem. Extra feet would've made it look a little nicer maybe but really doesn't hurt the support on it. As for DaveK's question yeah it would've been better with no feet and the tubbing laying flat but I got a really good deal on the metal from the distributor because I was using it for personal use so I take what I can get, I only had so much metal. :) I'll take a pic later of what it was on.

Oh I should ask everyone too what kinda of stuff should I hook up to this? I want to do it all right and I'm sure I'm gonna forget to buy things but I want to keep it to a minimum of disconnecting and reconnecting.

since you have access of all this great material and "free" labor...
may be extend something on the back going up - so you can hang your light fixtures too?
