As long as you have that kind of stock and so little actual filtration its going to continue to degrade over time.
GFO in a HOB filter is going to do very little as it really needs to be fluid to do anything. And with the amounts recommended in a tank that size it will most likely be saturated in short order. It can only hold so much, same with carbon.

@jgraz what do you mean by filtration? do i need more rocks? or add matrix or other live rock substitute? or are you talking about my skimmer being insufficient?

hmm... BRS said mixing GFO and Carbon will keep GFO from clumping and I can put it in my HOB... there's plenty of flow going through the media bag. I agree with the saturation though -- I feed my fish very well.
