3 skimmers to choose

So I am in the process of selling my ATB 840 V2 and am going to need to replace it as my system has grown.

System: 180g display, 75g sump (1/2 full), 40g fuge - will be heavily stocked.

I am currently looking at these 3 skimmers:

1. Aquamaxx ConeS CO3 - $409.99
2. SKIMZ SM 201 Monzter E-Serie $449.99
3. SKIMZ SK 201 Kone E-Serie $419.95

Any recommendations are appreciated!

I can't comment on any of those. However if I may add one. I have the SWC 230 come. I know many are opposed to buying SWC because of the owners questionable decisions but this skimmer is an absolute beast. I have it on my system that will ultimately be a similar size. At $400 brand new from reef filtration, it's right in the money wheelhouse with the others.

I have a larger skimz now and am very happy with it. I also ran a warner mf201 which was made by skimz and was very similar to the sk201. It was a great skimmer. That being said is there a reason that you want to sell your atb? The specs on it are very similar to the two skimz's that you mentioned. They all have 8 inch bodies and I think draw around 900 l/h of air. I think it at best would be a lateral move.

I will not buy any SWC products so thats out.

Mike from people on rc you're right. I don't think the ATB 840 V2 will be able to handle a 180 g tank, 40g fuge, 75g half filled sump w/ a good amount of fish.

People said to look for a 10" bodied skimmer, easier said than done.

Skimz makes a couple of 10 inch skimmers but you are jumping up to the $700 tp $800 range. Aquacave is having a sale now so they are a little cheaper.

Im wondering if your current skimmer could handle it. I thought that ATB was one of the few companies that put realistic ratings on their skinmers. Might be worth looking around to see if someone hasnt run one one on a similiar sized tank and get their input. I spoke with John Warner about the mf201 before I bought it and he indicated that it would be good on a 180 with a heavy load. Your sump and fuge aren't really going to contribute to your bioload.

The ATB is rated for 250 gallon, realistically about 150 gallons heavy bioload.

I am actually looking at going with the Avast CS3 Cone Skimmer Kit with 2 x Sicce PSK-1000 in recirculating mode & using my return to feed it.

Kit is a good one, I have a custom recirc skimmer with that pump and it is a heck of a pump. Great deal with the two pumps included.

nice ed I'll check it out, the skimmer you linked is pretty much same performance of my atb
