Re: 8' X 2' X 2.5' Tank build.....my side project for Paul C.
It's great to play with other peoples money!
Looks great, Merv! If you need a place to live when the barrel is cooking rock let me know. I have the luxury 55 gallon apartment or the budget 14 gallon flats for you to live in. ;D
Re: 8' X 2' X 2.5' Tank build.....my side project for Paul C.
Thanks Bill. I'll give ya a buzz next time I move out of my barrel, I hope you don't charge too much for rent.
As far as money, I forgot about that. Maybe I need to mention something to him, LOL. He just buys the stuff, I play with it. I love these side jobs!
I went there today and took a few more pics, and cleaned up the mess in the garage. Ammonia is gone, and it looked like everything was well on its way to becoming a full blown reef tank in as little as a month. I placed a few frags of SPS from my tank, we'll wait and see how they do in the next few days.....
Re: 8' X 2' X 2.5' Tank build.....my side project for Paul C.
Here is the second batch of rock, mostly branch. They were rather thick, and were also short. Somehow, I envisioned a 20 inch or longer piece, but these came in so short, I figured I would have to make a long piece or two. I wanted to build something like an arch, and I had a few things I could make it with.
This is how the "arch" looks like after I did some minor cleaning of the Zip ties and some foam over spray.
The arch was actually used in the tank about an hour after the foam cured. I opted to use the arch as a structural support rather than a true archway since Paul wanted a reef wall look on the tank itself; I was able to utilize the arch as a main support since I was able to lay a few large pieces of live rock directly on it, and came up with a few LARGE openings in the rock due to its shape and strength.
It's a mess, but I finally got the reactor tuned and bubbling away, the skimmer was now skimming wet since we have a crap load of Live rock in it now, and the chiller is on stand by mode with the ranco controller hanging on the side.
this skimmer pulls about a gallon of stinky wet skim every day, but has slowed down compared to two weeks ago... I'm planning on hooking up Ozone to this thing, but have to find the paperwork on the Ozonizer, the garage is such a mess right now...
Skimmate flows into this 5 gallon bucket...... and gets emptied every 5 days?!?!? Paul! ya gotta look in there sometimes!
Iwaki return pump, Teed off with one going to the chiller then back to the tank, the other going directly back to the tank.
MRC-6 reactor. This thing almost used up 3 big containers of ARM. My K2R reactor uses 3/4 of a container.... Talk about Calcium deprival........
The reactor is at a steady stream, right after the "individual drop" thresh-hold, and it's about 120-140 bubbles a minute...... So far, it's managed to keep the Calcium in the tank above 400ppm, tank started and hovered at 300ppm last week........ It might have something to do with me tossing in a full cup of Hef's Groupbuy Magnesium Chloride and 2 teaspoons of Epsom salts
The tank is still somewhat cluody in the last pic and in the next few, I still haven't cleaned the Acrylic since the Magnet hasn't come in yet, and the rocks were just placed in. So for now, enjoy the next few blurry pictures
A 20-chromis school chillin..... "swim away" "swim away"
You don't even really see the PEG legs with all that rock......
Brian, there are two Tunze 6080's in there, and in the next week, there will be 4 Maxijet 1200's in each corner with a wavemaker, and 2 weeks from now, there is a possibility of two more Tunzes with the controller for a total of 12,030 gph!!! I don't think sand would appreciate that
Steve, there is actually a good amount of space from the front of the tank to the rockwork. The rock work is so steep, that in some places it looks like a cliff or an overhang, besides, we've decided to make it an 80% LPS/Softie tank. All the SPS will be at the top.
We ordered today:
3 small yellow tangs
200 snails
3 Urchins
2 cleaner shrimp
2 linkia starfish

Hitachi 55" HD plasma on the left with an all out Onkyo TXNR901/Polk towers & surround sound system hooked up by yours truly, and the tank on the right side hooked up by none other......... man oh man oh man, ONE DAY...........
