5g frag tank, frag rack mods

Got a 5g set up and cycled and invert only. Decided that, as its going to be sorta dirty, maybe I can try to get back to some zoas.
As many may know I had massive zoa colonies and during an ill run of events, they were reduced to nada.
I'm running sps now but to be honest, I'd drop the 120g SPS tank in a minute for a 60 shallow with softie colonies.
This may be my path to that.

Here's the 5g as is, Spartan, random rocks acclimating, also have a pound of Marinepure in the overflow as well as a DIY floss filter...


and here's the frag rack I plan on modifying so it looks like rockwork...


Otherwise, not too much. Ordered some marine epoxy from Amazon.

I plan to use the marine epoxy to build up the frag rack to make it look a bit random while retaining most of the frag plug holes.
Then I'll spread some silicon over the entire structure and coat it with aragonite.

Any thoughts or warnings most appreciated.

This looks like a clever frag rock mod, and I look forward to seeing how it plays out...

If I was looking to do something with similar functionality, I think I'd try drilling a lot of 1/2" holes in a real (vs. faux) live rock. If I had a need to go the faux variety, there are people out there making such racks out of ceramic materials. I think some even come with magnets to attach them to the sides of a tank.

Planning to stick the aragonite on by coating the rack with silicon and dipping it.
Any suggestions on other methods to do this would be appreciated.

I LOVE it. Just a pinch concerned about the sand portion. Not sure how easy it will be to keep the glued on sand clean looking. Perhaps it doesn’t matter. May want to just make a nice ledge rock look and forgo the sand.

It’s going to look way better, but It’s going to be a pain cleaning algae from compared to an acrylic or pvc rack. As long as you don’t mind that

if you fill the regular rack up with zoas, it will just grow on it and take over. will pretty much hide it naturally. might be too much of an effort to make it look natural.

if i were to do the project, i would do it with eggcrate since you can maximize amount of holes when covering it with rubble rock and sand.
