Acans colors fading?

I bought some acans from WWC with some crazy colors in it about a month ago. I placed them little higher then lower level on my 50g cube 24x24x20 with radion running at max 60% intensity(least I think it's 60%) Some of the reds/purples started to fade on them. Could this be from too much light? Some of my other acans that I have are in just about the same place that are keeping their color fine. For now I moved them to the floor

Looks like they are turning orange just like the ones in Mike's (mnat) AI lit 57 did. Maybe someone with LEDs and Acans can chime in.

Yeah you basically need to have them on the sandbed and probably in some shade if you want to keep those colors. I was in pretty much the exact situation, bought some nice rainbows from WWC and put them under my AI LEDs. They both turned orange with no other colors. Now they are puffy and grew many new heads, just did not keep the rainbow color. They are back under t5s right now so I will let you know how is goes.

Thanks! I'll try to make some shade for them!

+1 for Mike. Keep them low. The orange and red will overcome the rest of the colors if they're up too high. The more insane "Rainbow" acans are found in lower light waters. T5's bring out the colors the best, but you can use LED if they're in the right spot. All about finding the sweet spot for every piece.

In my 250w Halide + T5 Lit tank I have all acan's on the sand bed just in the shadow of my rock Scape. They were able to keep the colors in that spot.

I had the same problem w/ my radion when I had it, as soon as I put the acans under T5 the colors came back after a bit.

same problem here on a couple Acans I bought a while back. The original owner had bought them with all sorts of different colors and then put them under his LED's. They turned completeled orange.

Ive had this Acan for over a year under 4bulb T5's and none of the colors came back.

I noticed that the new heads definatly had more colors than the exisitng heads and recently I did have a spike in nitrates which caused it to receed back some. Now that thats gone and its starting to swell up again I have noticed more colors on all of the heads.

I went and talked to Mike over at Captivating Coral. He was running one of the 20" tanks with a Radion at only 40% or so pretty darn high up. I am having trouble keeping things mid-level, so I turned down 5 plot points down by 20-30% tonight. The map I have was based on Jon from ecotech's 50g 24x24x20 cube.. but maybe that was bases on having SPS. I never wanted to mess with it because I was still learning everything else with this hobby.

Going to take it slow..

I'd also suggest keeping them down low. It took me a long time to realize that these weren't like all my sps that I blast with an 8bulb Sunpower. My acans are actually underneath a rock overhang / shaded and look the best that Ive seen them. As for the rainbow / crazy wild colored acans, I feel they always loose that great initial color that they came in with and really don't bother with them anymore.

Live & learn! Have a nice assortment of expensive orange acans right now!
