Advice from big tank owners 150+

Why not 12'x4'x4' and some scuba gear. If I had the room I would do it in a minute.

I think 12x4x4 isn't realistic for most people, Are there people that have tanks that big? yes there are. If i had the room, money and someone to clean it then yes i would do love to have a tank that big

holy cow, now that's a tank. But in that house it fits and looks like it belong. I love the hydraulic lift idea. Must be nice to have throwaway money like that. that's the type of house a 12x4x4 belongs in.

I'm so jealous. and i meant 30" tall not wide. Width isn't the issue. But either way i decided on getting the 72x24x30. It's too good a deal to pass up, so i'll manage with the 30" height

thanks for all your input

That's a nice size tank. Good luck with it and keep us posted. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress pics!

Hi

I have a 135 (72x18x24h) and wish it was wider every day. A 180 is 24" high and if you do not put a canopy on top, this depth is easy to work with even with a 33"h stand!!! Only afer I added an 8"h or so canopy for cosmetic reasons did it become a little more difficult to work on. I now use a one-step stool to reach the bottom third of the tank.

The larger glass tanks are safe, so go with the widest one you fit.

I wonder if those lights on the ceiling and the ambient room lighting is what lights it? It doesn't need anything special...looks like all the corals are fake. (I think!)

Good luck with the tank, Harry!

Now that you mention it, i think you're right... if you look at that one light bulb it's hanging from the wire. It looks like the house is still being renovated or built. That back room doesn't look together at all. What a shame... a tank like that and fake coral. :'(

I think the problem is that the 4' deep part requires some pretty awesome lighting if you want corals to grow in the bottom half of the tank.
I have thought a lot about large tanks (he says as he ponders his unfinished 65 X 30 X 25 tank...) and there comes a point (1000G+?) at which you have created something more like an aquarium exhibit, and it is hard to have that in a regular home due to power needs, amount of evaporation, maintenance commitment, and divorce papers. Among those who dream these dreams, Mr.5000 was our Icarus, he flew too close to the sun.

If you have long arms you can usually reach/work on the bottom of a 30" tank without to much problems. I've got a couple of 30" depth tanks and if I stand on a chair I can reach the entire bottom of the tank.

Now if you don't have long arms it's another story! It's a shame some company hasn't come out with a line of tanks in the sweet spot somewhere around 27/28" depth as I think it would become quite popular. Would fit the "tweeners market" real nice. Most average size adults could work in that tank without much issue and you'd have more depth then the typical 22-24" tanks which has the illusion of looking bigger then they actually are.

OK, so , stay with me here, how about a really tall tank, and in the back , it's got a kind of hatch, and behind the hatch there's a GLOVE BOX! So you open the hatch, and you can get right into the tank and move stuff around!. The pressure would feel kind of weird, but I think you could do it!
Only, like, an extra 10K.

You totally lost me on that one. Are you talking about something with seeled gloves built into the back or something like that. Kind of like the boy in the plastic bubble type environment only in a tank version?
