algae bloom excitement

I think you and inqy need to get a snail or hermit crab. I don't ever recall getting excited about algae when talking about aquariums.

Don't you guys have any cool hitchhikers? Even an aiptasia would be more interesting.

Treat for the hair algae right away. If you let it go too long it will gewt out of contol.

no, I didn't get any cool hitchhikers....other then what looks like sponges, I don't know?....I thought I couldn't add anything, hermits or snails until the tank fully cycles...from the info I read, I should wait for the cycle to complete, change 50% of the water and then add things...is this incorrect?....I'm leaving the lights off now

sometimes LR will bring with it some hitchers...this is typical of say LR from the gulf of mexico - where they use the fact that it's shipped in water as a differentiator from LR shipped wet/newspaper from the pacific. I've even seen some lucky folks get hitchers from LR purchased from an LFS...but most of the time it's aiptasia.

It's not a good idea to add inverts when the ammonia/nitrite is high. That stated people used to be recommended to have a damsel fish while cycling. So the reality is that while the critter will probably survive the cycle - it's not ideal.
