Decrease your lighting cycle and get a good starfish , snails, and some hermit crabs.
Do a water change and it will disappear...
The same thing happened to me a few weeks back while I was on vacation...
I think it occurred just from some overfeeding from the automatic feeders and a little excessive lighting cycling from the timers and I needed a small water change after being away for a little over 7 days...
I agree you should do a water change and lower time your lights are on. If you don't have a phosphate reactor now would be a good time to add one - it really helped my tank.
As with all algae issues - it would be helpful to state the size of the tank, water parameters and livestock if any.
You have two choices in my opinion. Treat the symptom or identify the root cause and act accordingly.
Treating the symptoms means possibly increasing the clean up crew and doing more water changes (again, not knowing what your current husbandry schedule is like, hard to recommend anything).
But I'd really encourage you to post the water parameters and advise if you are using RODI for top-off. Algae appears thanks to excess nitrate and or phosphates (either due to water, too much food, not enough skimming, etc.). Stopping it at the root cause will be more cost effective the long run than replenishing/adding to the clean up crew. Of course - we are having the group buy on inverts...so perhaps the timing is fortuitous...lol.
I have more than enough clean up crew so i'm not adding any. Will run a set of tests this morning. Tank is a 120 gal plumbed to the basement where i have two 100 gal rubbermaids, one for fug and one for sump. Skimmer is a Euroreef 8-2. Tank is only about 7 months new.
I'm pretty sure Brian cursed me be now i noticed one of my birdsnest the tissue is receding. Not looking very good.
mking water for a 60gal water change and yes it is RO/DI. Looks like i'm missing a sixline now as well. Haven't seen him since i got back from vacation. My daughter was taking care of the tank. It was the first time she had done this.
I had checked the Ph when i got home it was 8.2 Wonder if i had a temp spike while i was away i heard it was hot here.
Alk: 7 dkh will recheck this again after the lights come on. Will work on bringing this up. Water change and some extra buffer should help
nitrates: About 2. test kit measures 0 then 5. slightly above zero. usually its at zero but i do have the missing sixline. Water change should help that as well
PO4: non detectable. I'm sure they're in there but bound up with something.
is it possible while you were on vaca she feed the tank too much? I've had more than one sitter do that... : In essence while you were gone there'd be a spike in nutrients giving fuel to the algae. Now that you are back though everything may be held in check. Losing six-line in that size tank shouldn't cause too much nutrient issue...
I am thinking that over feeding may be an issue. Without the sixline i only have the one kole tang. Water will be ready when i get home from church for the water change so sometime today i will do the water change.
Also check Ca: 480 and Mag: 1410
so they look good.
