algae question.. please help

i recently purchased a good amount of cularpa algae (grape clusters), some of the balls, not the whole clusters, are turning yellow.. i had the light bulb, (a plant light from home depot) pretty close to the surface, so i moved it away. i havent givin it enough time to see if that was the problem.. i also started dosing a bit of coralvite (a mineral additive), directly into the fuge. someone told me iron levels might be the problem.. does anyone know anything else that will help??

sorry - this may not answer your question - but unless you are partial to caulpera - I'd say dump it and get some chaeto. Everyone in this club has too much of the stuff. Honestly this club does so much for people - I don't know what I'd do if I didn't join it.

It all depends on your nutrient levels. I would never add nutrients to a tank in hopes of growing my macro algae though! If you don't have a nitrate or phosphate issue you may not be able to grow it. How long are you lighting it? I would light grape caulerpa 24/7. That stuff likes a lot of light.

Anyone who doesn't light any type of caulerpa 24/7 is risking it going sexual and polluting the tank, anyways.

ok.. ill start light 24/7.. i know that i have some nitrates in my tank.. so.. maybe that will help. are the kinda lights im using a problem?

i run 50/50 pc's over my 55g fuge half filled with grape caulerpa and half with LR. also have a 4-5 inch DSB. a bunch of feather dusters on the LR. lots of snails & hermits too. seems to doing well for me, tank is 6 months old now.
