Another question peeps

I’m toying with the idea of turning my sump into a macro display and do away with algae system I’m using now ,, assume adding bio balls would be good , live rock ,CUC,
I’ve always loved the look and different colors of macro
So any advice or thoughts
Does anyone have a system like I’m thinking of
Pros ,, Cons,, let me know I’m really stoked about this idea

Sufficient flow and your likely gonna need to dose depending on how often you do wc and how much macro. What size is your chamber you plan on converting?

Edit:
Some macros need substrate, so that is another thing to consider. Mermaid fans, shaving bushes and prob a few others. Reds aren'tas great as filtering as green due to slower growth, but they tend to look better. Your reef parmeters might drop faster too, like alk.

Hockeynut used to do something like this. He used 40g's and would run a central section with rock, planted macro, and a cuc. Looked great (though it was under cabinet) and from what he'd tell me, it worked well.
But, he was using a full 40g tank and had a high nutrient (and balanced) system.

I have a 3 gallon hang on fuge on the back of my 30g tank where I'm growing 2 macroalgaes in an attempt to control nutrients and sustain a pod population for a mandarin, but its not enough algae control for my husbandry habits, so I'm adding an algae scrubber and modifying dosing. It's work.

If I were you, I'd keep the sump as a sump. As Mickey said, it adds a lot of work as you're trying to make the skimmer/filter/gunk section of your tank into a display that you're balancing to try filter another display.
Dark, dank, and disgusting on the sump imho. It's why they're under the cabinets.

Depends on the room you got to work with, a regular sump usually isnt enough. Unless you custom built the sump with a rlmacro displat in mind, a tank plumbed into the same system would look cleaner with if the system has a regular sump installed.
