Any sumpless setup out there?

If so, how are you keeping the top of the water clean. I have a 40 breeder as a temporary holding tank and the top of the water gets a thick film of crap on it. I use a cup to remove it when I do water changes. To much of a hassle and I really don't want to add a sump.

No sump on my 29g, I have a CPR Aquafuge and a AquaC Remora HOB Skimmer. Works great.

i have a sump but you can aim a powerhead to disrupt the surface more.

I'm sumpless on my 55. I have a Maxi 1200 pointed to the top to agitate the water. I don't get a whole lot of build up on the surface when I don't point it to the surface. I keep up on my water changes and all is good.

sumpless and skimmerless 55. both my koralia 2's break the water and the HOB filter does a pretty good job too.

They sell surface skimmers for around $12. It's a Skimmer cup that attaches to your fluval or similar filter or HOB filter. I have one I'm not using you can have.

This is what I had used a while back when I had the same problem. it solved the surface scum problem.

Sumpless on our 30g and our 20 g. We just use the powerheads and skimmers and have not developed any film on top.

same here, no sump on my 75gal, just enough agitation caused by the pumps and skimmer, no issues with gung. I do have a surface skimer adapter for the Aqua Clear filters just like the one in the picture you can have for free if you want, just let me know.

I'm actually using an AquaC Remora skimmer and I was able to get a hold of the surface skimmer box. I'm going to give this a try.
