Steve, I've been seriously considering buying one of these to record my scuba diving: HD Hero 2
For $300 you get full HD 1080p video recording (11 Megapixel), waterproof to 197' (comes with it's own case), and is super small (specs don't give dimensions, but my cousin just bought one and it's about 3"H x 4"L x 2" Thick). It also takes single pictures, but I'd likely just do the vid capture. It also comes with mounting hardware so you can mount it to a helmet or anything else you want to mount it to.
I've seen the video this thing takes (above water only so far) and it's fantastic!
If you have the money, this is something you won't regret buying.
