Anyone interested in a Black Percula? - 08831

Well I bought this cute little guy from Dr. Jim on Saturday. I already have orange percula in the tank. I was told/read that the percula's could be mixed.
I was wrong. The little guy was being chased all over the place. I took him out and put him in my sump where is is doing fine.

Dr. Jim would not take him back. So here I am stuck with this fish. I love it to the extent that I am ready to take out my orange one from my DT to keep him ;D. But it is impossible to catch him :(

This is a wild caught fish not tank raised. If someone wants it please PM me.

I paid $45 for him. I will take $40 or can trade for SPS.

Sunny try adding the fish again with the lights off and allow for some chasing to occur.

I did something similar adding a black to my 14g biocube with an orange already in it. The black would chase and kind of bully the orange one around and this went on for a few weeks. Now they're inseparable and even at night sleep together.

Just give it time, no reason to get rid of the fish right away.

Hope this helps.

I agree. I always add new fish at night. Can even try moving a piece of rock or adding something to the tank so its new. Then once setlled in remove it.

I really do not want to loose this guy. He is a very nice looking fish. If I add him back again, I may not be able to take him out.

Heck, I have almost always taken the advice of the fellow reefers on this forum. Let me try to add him back tonight.

You can also put him in a breeder to keep him from being beat up for a while and/or provide a breeder basket where he can retreat by introducing him in the breeder basket, then cutting him an exit hole after he is in the tank. Make sure you keep the hole small enough so that the larger clown can't get in there with him. I've had this happen twice when pairing up an older single clown with a new mate, both clowns were fine so long as provided with a "safe" place to retreat, just a bit of nipping at the fins of the newcomer. We're also going through this a bit since taking our two pair of clowns, putting them all together during the tank crash, and then separating the pairs out again- the pair of picasos and the pair of black clowns now that they are separated, are now again nipping and chasing to establish dominance again.
Good luck.

There is no such thing as a "black percula" unless you mean black false percula....which is a black ocellaris.

There are black onxy true perculas - but they are not all black. Same goes for the picasso.

Therefore a black oscellaris could be paired with an orange oscellarous. But not necessarily a true perc.

Finally - i would find it hard to believe there are black oscellaris "wild" caught fish out there. There are so many of them being bred locally it would make zero economic sense to get a wild-caught one.

Tank bred black false percs:

Based on the above prices - that's a good deal! good luck.

Interesting enough Hawk. I am just saying what I was told when I bought this fish.

It is in the tank now for 6 days and still alive. I do not see it out much but it shows no visible signs of damage.
I think he will be fine.

Glad to hear it. Give the two fish a bit of time, my clowns (ocelleris) took a good 5 weeks to pair up when I introduced them.
