Anyone know anything about Central Air Units?

Anyone on here know about Central A/C Units?? Especially Rheem??

We just had an entirely new unit installed and it is supposed to be a 16 SEER unit. The Energy Guide label on it say 14.50. The installer told me that it is in fact a 16 SEER unit and you have to combine two numbers or something.

Can anyone help??

I will check that out!!

I did some research and number crunching and we talked with the installer again today.

Apparently the way they rate their systems is as a whole. The Condenser is 14.5 Seer and the Air handler is 18 Seer, if you average them you get 16.25 seer. This is what I am being told is how they get the rating.

That might be the num avg for the whole system. But i know you need a certain air handler for a certain condensor. They have to match up you cant just use any one with each other. It should say right on it how many seer. If it doesnt, get the model num and look it up . If you try to do the energy star thing for a rebate everything has to be a certain seer to qualify. So in your case the air handler might qualify and maybe the condenser won't. I dont know what the nums are though to qualify

What he told you is the way they do it. I replaced mine about 18 months ago. Got a York but looked at the Rheem too. Unless they changed the rebates, the furnace part is easy money, mine is 96.5 % efficient, the AC part is like 150 bucks and impossible. You have to do this long form that requires a civil engineering degree I swear. Or you can spend 75-100 bucks on a program to do it for you(you still have to measure all the vent pipes, distance etc). Yeah right. It is so bad that the guy who put mine in wouldn't do it and the Rheem dealer basically just gave you 150 bucks back up front and said "we will file it later" yeah right in the circular bin next to the desk. My gas bill dropped 50 percent I would guess well worth it.
