Hi all. Found a guy out in Brielle with a bunch of leftover plexiglass. As I'm building a sump, I contacted him and got some great prices on the pieces he has left over post a local job. Checked, seems legit.
All pieces are .25"
Here's what he has:
2-12x22
6-24x24
2-24x36
2-24x48 (he quoted me $35 each on these)
2-24x60 (he quoted me $40 each on these, I'm getting at least 1)
2-24x72
2-24x84
2-24x96

He's willing to sell the entire lot at an asking price of $270

I'm planning to contact him this week and head down Saturday to pick a few pieces up. If anyone wants any I can ask for prices (more pieces = lower pricing, plus there may be haggling room) and I can pick them up for you and hold them in Brick (but not indefinitely).

Lemme know, I'm contacting him tonight and will be finalizing by the end of the week.

7I'm not talking about the entire build. I'm just talking about the internals. I'm going to pick up a 40b at the Petco sale and sump it up.
Sorta like that Elvis Costello fish song.

Also, ran 1/8 in a small 10g sump/refuge a while back which worked very well. Had a test run of a 20gL sump off a 65g main with a 2" difference in baffle heights (.125 plexi) which held out very well.

I'm going to play with designs a bit, the 1/4 plexi gives me the ability to (semi) easily cut and fit pieces with considerable strength, pending advice and bribery.

Mark is it difficult to silicon acrylic to glass? I am always under the impression it is. That's why I bought glass for the baffles. Actually I still have two pieces cut for 40g width if you want them.

These are great prices if you have a decent table saw you can make some nice stuff. I would like to get some. Does anyone have experience cutting plexiglass or can do it (for a fee or trade)? I want to build two custom containers.

HP,

KK. I'll be heading to pick it up next Wednesday most likely. And I've built 2 sumps where I've used plexi inside a glass tank with 100% silicone. Had no problem with either one. Saying that, this stuff is so affordable I may try to make a full sump out of it.

As they said in The Graduate, "I just want to say one word to you. Just one word. Plastics! There's a great future in plastics."

All the sumps I've built have been with either acrylic or polycarbonate. Just make sure you use plenty of silicone.....pretty doesn't count.

Sam Wainwright wanted to let George Bailey in on a ground floor opportunity, telling him of the bright future in plastics in the 1946 film "It's a Wonderful Life"

I used to live in the town that story was based on, Seneca Falls, NY. Every year they have the surviving cast come up, they put on shows, the town goes wild, it beautiful and fun and the spirit is contagious.
For the other 355 days of the year its usually buried in 15 feet of snow or suffering 100+ temperatures and populated by a massive amount of unemployed folk who gather at the local Walmart for weekend entertainment.
But the bridge is there.

Anyways, going to go pick up this stuff next Wednesday after confirming prices early next week. If anyone else interested let me know by the end of the weekend.

Going to pick up tomorrow. Will do a bit of haggling. If anyone else interested I'll check the this thread and my PMs tomorrow early morning. It is a great deal.

Joe, He didn't quote me the price on the 6' sheets but I'm guessing they'll be $40-50 each. I'll grab those 2 for you and a few sheets for myself then haggle down. If we can get a decent lot for $100-140 we can split the cost.

I'm sorry Mark, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts has now declared the collage art as seen in the photograph of the plexiglass piece a masterpiece, and now require you to leave those piece as is. Your house has been entered into the State registry for protected art masterpieces. Please expect crowds of people stopping by to view this masterpiece. It would also be appreciated if you had some cheese and cracks and some wine for these folks.

Nice haul! Dance
