Anyone try a 'black box chiller'?

I know there are a number of Chinese black box lights out there that do well.
Anyone hear anything about the Chinese chillers? They're running about 1/4 of the price, which means I'd usually stay away, but wondering if there are any that end up being worthwhile.

I think even well made chillers have a short life expectancy. Ever seen a used one for sale that wasn't rusty?

A small window air conditioner might serve you better - at least you'll be cool working on the tanks...

Hi Bob,
Agree wholeheartedly. Only problem is that when the engineer I bought the house off of designed the place, he hated traditional windows. THeres not a single window in the joint that falls within regular style or dimensions. Plus they all open outwards, so I cant even put a portable in.

A few times when I've stayed in European B&Bs we've had AC via a hand held controller for a unit that was long, a few inches deep any maybe 8-to-10 inches high, and was mounted on a wall near the ceiling. I don't think they were connected to the outside environment. I have no idea what the Europeans call them. Check Amazon for "indoor air conditioners" and "European indoor air conditioners".

There are also stand alone ACs that have no outdoor connection. I've seen them used in computer server rooms that got too hot. There are some in the Amazon searches I suggested.

Ciao,
Bob

Most of the world use this type of ac/ heater
They are called “ductless” Or mini splits
They are very efficient and allow you to have ac in areas that normally you wouldn’t.

I like the air conditioner idea that was my first chiller for 2yrs until a week ago when I installed my first real chiller. I love it and can’t believe I waited so long to get one,, it’s all in one no extra sensors or timers just plugged it in and turned it on now my tank stays 73-74 steady

I don’t think the good ones are throw aways. The one I’m using has been running for a few years. My buddy gave it to me, he ran it for 4-5 years before it went into storage when he moved (2 years).
