APEX Lunar Simulator Module and LED's

It's been a long time since I was able to see the tank with moonlights and frankly I miss it. Has anyone used this Mod with the Apex/Aqua Controller or have any info on whether its worth it or not. Thanks in advance.

John

I assume they're the same, but I use the moon light controller for my RK & LOVE it. I use 2 strings with 2 1W blue LEDs each. I max them out at ~75%

i have the apex lunar sim. at $80ish for two lights it seems like a bit too much. i got mine as a christmas present and i don't think i would buy them with my own money. its nice being able to see at night, just not worth it for that much money IMO. if you really want to have it on a true lunar cycle you have to get this but if you just want to see your corals at night i would get a cheaper solution like the R2 moonlights. they dont even come with the hardware to mount them or any stickies or anything. i had to use duct tape for mine.

I'm not really concerned about lunar cycle. Just want miss the moon light flow at night. I'll check out the other light you mentioned. But on BRS the one for apex isn't $80. Thought it was much less. I'll have to double check though. My biggest issue is gonna be figuring out how to mount them, don't really have the space on my T5 fixture.
Thanks for the replies guys.

they might have lowered the price but i dont think so. the module itself is $40ish i think and then the string of two LEDs is another $40ish. their pricing scheme seems to be designed to trick you into initially thinking that its cheaper than it actually is. (i did the same thing myself before i bought them) if you want more LEDs they are about $10 an LED after you get two of them. im not sure what you're working with but i wouldnt be so worried about mounting them. all you need is a small 1"x1" surface to use some kind of double sided tape.

Funny you mention the price. I just looked again and though nah he's wrong. Looked a third time and well your right. I though the prices were the mid and LEDs. Nope. After looking at the r2's though that's a better fit and price. That's the way I'm going. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

i know this is an old thread, but i am looking into maybe getting some lunar lights....would like to have the apex units but like mentioned, i would like to go on the cheaper end. do you gusy think that i can just purchase the light strings and plug it directly into a power brick? i have one handy left over from my gyre

I have the lunar led simulator from apes and a 2 led string over my 4 foot 135g tank, works great. i just programmed them to come on at lights off and go out in a couple hours and then the revers in the morning. for two leds it lights up the tank quite nicely, any more and it would be too much.
