Aquarium Systems Seaclone 100 Protein skimmer

My Oceanic 58 gallon RR tank came with this seaclone protein skimmer. I do not sea the protein skimmer producing a whole lot of waster compared to other protein skimmer that I have owned in the past. The only positive thing that I can see with this skimmer is its size. It fits perfectly next to my return pump in my refugium. Can anyone reccomend a good quality skimmer that is approximately the same size but is better in quality.

Just about any skimmer would be a improvement over a Seaclone!

lol Bob...actually no skimmer would be better since you'd save on electricity...just do water changes.

for a 58 i'd suggest a skimmer like the aqua c remora/urchin. I used an aquac ev 120 on a 55 but that was because I was going to upgrade to a bigger tank later.

skimmers come in a variety of flavors, molds and prices. Do you have a budget in mind?

at that price level I'd suggest trying to find something used. Also while not perfect - the sticky in this forum has a bunch of skimmer listings and their foot-print size - that might help to narrow down what you can and cannot fit in your sump.

I have a ETSS sump buddy 40 on my 92 corner..... Its footprint is 4x7 and 23in tall....works in depths of 11in or less. It sells for just under $200 if you can find the right spot online to buy it. Only bad thing is it doesn't come with the pump. I had a few extra pumps sitting so it wasn't a problem. I use a mag 9.5 with a valve on it.... a bit overkill but I never thought that hurt any. The recommend a mag 7 or equivalent.

I just got a 58 oceanic myself and am probably going to buy another of the same skimmer for it. I like that to adjust it I don't have to get my hands wet

Thanks for the responses. I have been doing some research on the models that were suggested and was curious about one more thing.

Is it possible for me to put a larger / better quality pump on this skimmer and see better results? I was thinking about a mag 3...

I have been viewing many different protein skimmers and alot of them have the same cylinder shape body and do not look a whole lot different. Therefore I thought a larger pump just might do the trick for me.

Thanks and let me know what you think - Jon
