Aquarium Trim Painting?

I just picked up another 72ga Bow which will be used to upgrade my 46ga bow FOWLR. The only problem is that its brown trim. Has anyone painted the trim black w/o any problem with peeling down the road? I wont attempt to change the trim for fear of causing leaking problems. I've seen at HD that Krylon makes a paint specificly for plastic any one used it?

The krylon paint for plastics works great. Just clean the plastic good first. You might even want to lightly sand it with real fine sand paper first.

That paint is great. We use it all the time. Mostly for outside furniture. It holds up well to weather. Should work great on tank trim.

:) Thanks everyone, I took it outside and gave it a good wash. I will wipe it down tomorrow and prep it for the paint job. I found a awesome blue for the background. One more question should I paint the corner overflow area or should I leave it exposed to look ar the pipes? ???

Just got home from HD, I'll start my paint project today I'll be doing the blue background first. Once I'm done with that I'll do the trim. How many coats do you think, its a semi gloss exterior Glidden paint.

I wanna know how this goes. I also have the ugly black trim. I was thinking of spray painting it but I was deathly afraid of overspray getting on the glass. I would rather a manual way of painting the trim.

You can use masking tape and some newspaper to cover the glass. If any paint goes on the glass a razor blade will take off the paint.

Thats correct, cover up the glass. I'm going to disappoint some of you but I decided to keep the brown trim. I painted the stand with Glidden semi-gloss exterior paint in a dark brown to contrast the lighter trim of the tank. Anyhow all your advise and opinions were great and much appreciated. Thank you.
