Arce's 75 Gallon Mixed Reef Build

Just got set back on the build, went to go measure and wet test the tank i was going to use as my sump and it had a hairline crack along the side so i had to toss it. Ive got two options, use the 55 gallon tank i have laying around or buy a new tank. Cant decide if i want to use the 55 although it provides some good options for space and in the long run if i ever upgrade.

I figured id just use the 55 so i was thinking of how i was going to put my baffles in and i went to look up the sca-302 skimmer operating water height and its around 9 inches so i have to see if i want to build some type of stand to hold the skimmer higher in the sump since the water level will be alot higher than 9 inches or if i should baffle it differently.

IMO i think that the SCA-301 worked better in around 7-8" closer to 7". Definitely just make a skimmer stand out of egg crate. can easily be done in less than 20 mins.

+1 for an egg create stand. A couple zip ties and egg create (light diffuser), and you’re done. The egg create is easily cut with a pair of wire cutters.

Here you can see an egg create stand for the biopellet reactor, and a plexiglass stand for the skimmer on the left (sort of hard to see).

Got bored at work so i drew this up. Its to scale so it seems like the way i have it laid out will work. Might make the fuge smaller though and increase the skimmer side to give space for reactors in the future.

Got my tank!

Just need to build myself a stand which I'm dreading. Going to have to borrow some tools from some friends and hope to find time to build it.

Ordering my return pump once I get the stand going so once I have it done I can plump it and get started. I also have to baffle the 55. So much to do haha.

I wouldn't make your return side to small you might want to put another pump or reactor in there at a later date instead of putting in with your skimmer. This way most water has been through your skimmer before hitting your reactors like GFO or GAC . I pretty sure bio pellets are suppose to go into the intake of your skimmer. Ill let someone else chime in on that note being I do not have a bio pellet reactor. Also a lot of people are going away from the large refugium and moving towards bio pellets once again I'm not versed in that area. Good luck your planning looks good

Ok ill adjust the size of the fuge area. I have a while before i probably baffle the sump because i have to build my stand which will probably take me a good amount of time since i have to borrow my friends tools.
