Aussie lobo brain deteoriating

About a month ago I bought an aussie lobo brain from The Hidden Reef. The specimen was a beauty and in great health. For about the first two weeks it swelled up great and was all that I had hoped for. Since than it has not swelled up as big, the color is beginning to fade, the tissue is beginning to recede in one spot underneath and in some spots on top the skeleton is trying to poke through the tissue.

I'm not sure if there is anything that I can do to fix this. Everything else in my tank is doing great which is why I am giving up hope. Lobo brains have always been very easy to keep and I have never lost one before. I feed my tank cyclopeze twice a week and DT's twice a week as well. My alk, calcium and magnesium are all in line, my temp ranges from 78-80 and my salinity is 1.028. I know this is a bit high and I am going to correct this with my water change on Friday.

Any help would be appreciated if we think we can save this expensive beauty.

Thanks - Jon

You probably need to spot feed it. Maybe its not getting enough food when you feed. Make sure its not getting direct flow.

What sort of lighting are you using and where is it in your tank? When you are feeding your corals do you turn off your pumps?

I have a 58 gallon tank with a T5 tek light that puts out 234 watts. The lobo brain is on the sand bed and was very happy there. I do not turn off my protein skimmer and return pump when I feed them cyclopeze / DT's. I usually feed them extra to avoid having to do this. Tonight I spot fed him for the first time and will see how that goes.

After spot feeding it on Wednesday night the brain is looking much healthier. Thanks for the advice and I will continue to spot feed him twice a week.

Jon you can cover your lobo with a small clear container when feeding it to be sure the fish do not steal the food from it while it is feeding. get yourself some mysis shrimp , my lobos love it.
